Think about it.

Hello.  First entry.

It seems to me that plastic is here to stay.

There is no getting rid of it, not in my lifetime, and I very much doubt in the lifetime of anybody human that is living on this planet at this moment.  Certainly not for any other living thing on this planet at this time.

So what?  Who cares?  What’s the big deal?  The world will take care of itself; it always has, right?  We’re just a part of nature.  So fuck it.

Well, yes, you could say that.  Hell, you could just fill your pick-up truck with all the trash you generate, drive down to the ocean and just make it easy — dump it right on in there; let’s just get it over with.

Or you could just keep dumping into that little can beneath your kitchen sink, that gets dumped into the larger one by the curb, that gets hauled away.  You see the bill once a month.  You pay it.

Or you could think about it. There is more to life than convenience. There is the idea of responsibility.

Think about that.  What does responsibility mean to you?  What are you responsible for?  Other people?  Your family, your friends, your community, your way of life?  A pet?  A plant?

What is that?  What does that involve, exactly?  What are the details that make up those responsibilities?

Try, just for one moment, to consider being “responsible” for the entire Earth.  Just imagine that your actions will directly impact the “entire” planet.

If you were to choose something to make this world a better place, a healthier place, a sustainable place, what would you do?

I am going to become responsible about the plastic in my life.

We’re in it, people.  This is a plastic age.  Let’s not let it ruin us.

Responsibility is not convenient — it’s necessary.

  3. I have been boycotting plastic and sourcing sustainable alternatives and blogging about it for ages now. While doing so I have met loads of lovely people. But now I need to
update my blog roll. I would love to do kind of who’s who in the plastic refusenik, zero trash, and dumper diving world. If you could be bothered to send me a brief description– say a paragraph – about your blog, aims and achievements, I would very happy to feature you.

I don’t want to write it myself in case I miss the best bits or misrepresent you.

Images to illustrate the above also gratefully accepted.

    please send to

    to appear in

    With thanks
